SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Road work is just a fact of life during the summer in Siouxland.
“We have a long list of projects going on,” said Gordon Phair, City Engineer with Sioux City.
Many roads around the area have been closed this summer due to road construction.
Some of these roads include Pierce Street and Morningside Avenue.
Phair says that these projects are important for safer driving.
He says while the emergency road repairs aren’t scheduled on some projects, many have been planned for a while.
“Others yes have been in the works for many years, like Military Road Bridge closure and reconstruction. It’s a major connection between the two cities and it has to be done. The bridge is due for replacement, the deck was due for replacement,” Phair said.
He emphasizes for people to stay calm when they are driving in construction areas.
“Have patience, for all the contractors. Be careful of them. Don’t develop road rage when you’re around the construction projects. These people are putting their lives on the line when they’re out there working in traffic,” Phair said.
He says most of the projects will be completed by fall.
