ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) – Authorities in Sioux County are warning residents about a returning asphalt pavement scam.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office said the scams have returned to the area this summer. They say if anyone approaches you to quickly do repair work it should raise suspicions.

Authorities say if someone approaches you and says they have leftover asphalt from another job and they can pave your property at a discounted rate if you pay in cash, this is almost always indicative of a scam.

Authorities also say to see if the person or group has a company logo on their trucks or equipment and ask the contractor for a current insurance certificate.

If you do hire a company, always make sure you get a written contract and ask for printed information on the types of professional-grade sealer they will use.

And if you are ever in doubt, contact the Better Business Bureau and request a record of complaints filed against the company.
