FORT DODGE, Iowa (KTIV) — Alta-Aurelia won their opener in the Class 2A state softball tournament, 2-0, over third-seeded Central Springs.
Warrior senior pitcher Abby Kraemer allowed just one hit in the circle to get the victory. Alta-Aurelia scored both of their runs in the second inning. Mallorie Jacobson’s RBI groundout made it 1-0. Sierra Hill hit a slow roller to shortstop that brought in the second run of the game and moved the Warriors into the semifinals.
“This year we’re just a lot more comfortable,” said head coach David Turnquist. “You can tell Abby wasn’t as nervous as last year and as that game kept going she just took control like this is my game, I wanna take control of this thing.”
“The nerves the first couple innings, they were there,” said senior Abby Kraemer. “But once I was able to figure out what each batter did and what pitches to throw to them and what pitches they struggled with I was really able to just hone in on those things and really know what to do with them.”
Alta-Aurelia plays second-seeded East Marshall in the semifinals Wednesday at 5 o’clock.
