Defenders experienced on defense

SIOUX CENTER, IA (KTIV) – Dordt football enters this season ranked third in the Great Plains Athletic Conference media poll. The Defenders are coming off a 7-3 campaign which was good enough for a third place finish in the GPAC a year ago.

For the first time in the Joel Penner era at Dordt, the Defenders will be starting a new quarterback this season.
Brock Lamle graduated leaving an open competition at that position. Dordt has four players, two sophomores and two freshman that will compete for the starting job once camp begins.

The strength of the team will be the defense. It’s a junior heavy defense that returns most of their starters. Penner believes having that experience and continuity on the defensive side of the ball is key to their success this season.

“Being a year older is everything,” said Penner.. “Yes, we’re going to have young players that we expect to play. We’re still in that spot as a program but at the end of the day, having a junior heavy defense is very exciting for us.”

The Defenders open their season on August 29th at home against Keiser University.
