ROCK VALLEY, Iowa (KTIV) – The City of Rock Valley will officially open a $2.2 million facility that will benefit many in the community.
The new Parkview Event Center is also home to Rock Valley’s City Hall and took about six months to build.
City administrator Tom Van Maanen says it is something that their community has been lacking.
So, when this building became available they saw the potential to construct the event center, immediately.
He says the community has experienced some tough situations with flooding, and the loss of the assisted living facility, so its nice to have the event center to celebrate some success.
“We did receive a little bit of money from the state of Iowa, but we had about 10 businesses in town that we asked for some assistance to qualify for the grant and their participation really made this project come together so once again its not a city project its a community project and when you bring people together in your town great things do happen,” said Tom Van Maanen, City Administrator.
The city will kick off the start of its annual “Rally in the Valley” with a pageant at the Parkview Event Center, on Wednesday.
“We usually start Wednesday night like tonight we will have a great opportunity to open this building up to show the public as a grand opening event which leads right into our miss rock valley pageant which is a wonderful opportunity for our high school and little miss and kindergartens and first graders to come out and just kinda experience that and see what that’s about,” said Adam Rosman, Community Activities Director
The “Rally in the Valley” city event will also have inflatables, eating contests, and a tug of war with the town’s fire department.
