High expectations for Hawkeyes in 2019

IOWA CITY (KTIV) – Last season, the Iowa Hawkeyes went 9-4, 5-4 in the Big Ten.The season ended with a win over Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl.The Hawkeyes met with the media Friday ahead of the 20-19 season.

There are high expectations for this years team.The Hawkeyes are picked to finish 2nd in the Big Ten west.Iowa is ranked 19th in the college football preseason coaches poll. They return 6 starters on offense and 4 on defense.The Hawkeyes are confident that they can live up to or even exceed expectations.

“The goal is to make it to Indy,” said junior AJ Epenesa. “We wanna try and win every game but just playing solid defense, putting our the fire whenever we need to and showing up to play everyday including practices and especially the games but I know we will be ready to do that and that’s our main focus.”

“There’s always pressure to help the team move along,” said senior Nate Stanley. “But you wouldn’t want it any other way. We love this game and we continue to put ourselves in those positions. We do it for a reason. We love that pressure and wanna be in those situations.”

The Hawkeyes kickoff the season August 31st at home against Miami, Ohio.
