SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Sioux City Stampede were looking for their third straight championship but the Fargo Invaders defeated the Stampede 16-7 in the Elite Bowl Saturday night.
It was a defensive battle for most of the game. After a scoreless first quarter, Fargo got on the board on a six yard touchdown pass from Ja’vonte Johnson to Cornell King giving the Invaders a 6-0 lead. Fargo added a field goal in the closing seconds of the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead into halftime.
The Stampede offense was shut down through three quarters but found the endzone in the fourth. Quarterback Dorian Ballentine ran it in from two yards out to close the gap to 9-7.
Fargo put the game away with a touchdown with just under two minutes to play to get the win 16-7.
