X’s can’t hold six run lead against Canaries

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota (KTIV) — The Explorers couldn’t hold a 6-0 lead and lost to Sioux Falls, 11-10, on Monday night. Sioux City falls to 45-35 on the season. It was just the seventh win for the Canaries in their last 29 games.

The Explorers scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Jose Sermo, Drew Stankiewicz, Dexture McCall, Adam Sasser and Dylan Kelly all drove in runs as Sioux City sent ten men to the plate.

Sioux Falls answered with five runs in the bottom of the first, chasing X’s starter Andrew Chin after just two outs.

Sioux City increased their lead to 8-5 with two runs in the second. Stankiewicz and McCall upped their RBI totals with a triple and a double, respectively.

The Canaries got closer with a pair of solo homers in the fourth inning by Mike Hart and Graham Low to make it 8-7. Jordan Ebert’s bases loaded double in the seventh inning brought in three runs for a 10-8 lead. Stankiewicz hit a two-run homer for Sioux City in the ninth.

The series ends with a 12:05 game on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Falls.
