SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) – UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s has opened the door to its newest pediatric theme room.
On Wednesday, Jackson, a former pediatric patient, cut the ribbon to celebrate the opening of the new room. The theme? “Big Top Fun”. The new addition to the pediatric unit was sponsored by Jolly Time Pop Corn.
This is the 8th themed room at UnityPoint Health.
The rooms are created with the purpose of reducing the fear and stress kids experience when they are hospitalized. “I think we are probably best known for our life saving equipment and things that we bring to kids during their stay that bring a smile to their faces whether its crayons or stuffed animals but we have also really done our research and there is a lot of research out there that shows the environment that a child is in can have just as much of an impact on their recovery process as the medicine and the treatment processes as well,” said Anne Holmes, Director of Unity Point Health St. Luke’s Children’s Miracle Network.
Jolly Time Pop Corn staff says the new room took about six months to create.
