SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Briar Cliff football team went 6-5 last season, good enough for the first winning season in program history. It was an impressive turnaround after an 0-11 season in 20-17. The Chargers will look to take another step forward this season. Briar Cliff brings back a lot of talent in the skill positions on offense.

Wide Receivers Elijah Brown and Loagnn Freeman were All-GPAC performers a year ago. They’ll be catching balls from true freshman quarterback Preston Mulligan who’ll be taking over the reigns of the offense. The strength of the Chargers will be the defense, especially on the front seven where every starter from a year ago is back. With all of the returning talent, the Chargers know they can improve on last years success.

“Win more than we won last year,” said Head Coach Dennis Wagner. “Whether it’s one game, two games or whatever it takes. We just gotta continue to improve and since we’ve got here we’ve spoke about culture. Our culture has to continue to change and you do that by winning.”

“We all have one common goal,” said junior Markel Roby. “That’s GPAC champion. We’re looking to carry this momentum. We’re keeping that same mentality that we had last year. We made a little bit of noise but we’re looking to make more. We’re looking to carry over the momentum from last season.”

The Chargers begin the season August 31st at Waldorf University.
