SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – It has been 215 years since Sergeant Floyd was buried in Sioux City.
Saturday, re-enactors from the Sergeant Floyd Honor Guard were in full-dress uniform, re-created the burial ceremony that took place during the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Sergeant Floyd was the only member of the expedition to pass away during the journey.
This annual re-enactment is a way to honor the travelers and the moments they passed through Sioux City.
“We are teaching people, or attempting to teach, what really happened as opposed to the myths that have grown up through Hollywood and novels,” said Sergeant Floyd Honor Guard member, Dwight Peters.
The event followed a display of authentic tents, camp equipment, uniforms, and firearms used during the expedition.
