SIOUX CITY (KTIV) –  Dogs crowded the entrance to PetSmart in Sioux City on Saturday morning for the fifth annual pet adoption drive, called Clear the Shelters.

Cats and dogs from all local animal shelters were there to be introduced to customers looking for a new addition to their family.

Participants included Animal Adoption and Rescue Center, Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue, Heartland Humane Society and 12 Hills Dog Rescue, and the Siouxland Humane Society.

“It’s not only to bring awareness of all the great pets that are in local shelters waiting to be adopted out, but also to bring awareness to how important it is to have those animals spayed and neutered,” said Siouxland Humane Society Volunteer Manager Kelly Erie.

This event is put on nation-wide and more than two hundred fifty-thousand pets have been adopted through this campaign.
