Burial procession for Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephanie Schreurs

(KTIV) – A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for a northwest Iowa sheriff’s deputy, who died, following a crash in her patrol vehicle.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephanie Schreurs died Tuesday afternoon from injuries she suffered in an accident earlier in August.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday morning at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

It is then followed with burial in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Alvord, Iowa.

The procession route begins at the Sanford Pentagon, turning west on 51st Street, then north on Westport.

It will then turn east on 60th St., and south on Cliff Avenue.

The route will then turn east on Highway 42, which then becomes Highway 9 at the Iowa border.

The route then continues south on Highway 182 at the intersection of Highway 9 and 182 South, eventually turning east on A34.

The route ends by going south on Eagle Avenue, leading to the cemetery.

Officials ask that those attending, enter through the Southwest entrance of the cemetery.

More about Stephanie Schreurs:

Schreurs was a 24-year veteran of the department.

She attended Wayne High School and graduated in 1977.

In 2008, she was inducted into the Wayne High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

She then migrated north to Sioux City to attend Briar Cliff University where she played volleyball and basketball.

She had 5 children, with her husband Daniel.

Schreurs joined the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher in January 1995 and became Lyon County’s first female deputy in August 1997

The Security Savings Bank in Larchwood has established a memorial fund in  Schreurs’ honor.
