Dakota Valley students head back to school

NORTH SIOUX CITY, SD (KTIV) – Thursday was the first day of school at Dakota Valley Schools in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

At the elementary school, many of the teachers greeted their students with hugs to welcome them back.

And, some students wanted to make sure they made a good first impression.

Many Dakota Valley teachers say they love summer vacation, but once July rolls around they say they’re ready to get back to their kids.

“This is always my favorite time of the year I look out into the parking lot and not only do you see all the kids coming in and getting off buses, but all the parents and the excitement,” Dakota Valley Elementary School Librarian Laurie Horner said. “It’s probably one of the best feelings ever. I would say just seeing their happy faces and then they know you, kind of makes teachers feel like rockstars.”

Horner says she wants students to know that no matter who they are, or what they have been through, once they walk into the building, they will be loved.
