SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The Sioux City Explorers broke a four-game losing streak on Monday night, beating Kansas City 5-0 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The X’s pulled within a half game of the T-Bones for the wild card spot in the American Association’s South Division. Kansas City also saw their 12-game winning streak come to an end.

Sioux City (47-39) scored four runs in the second inning. Sebastian Zawada, Kyle Wren and Nate Samson each drove in runs to give the X’s an early lead. Samson’s two-out, RBI double came on his 32nd birthday. Drew Stankiewicz singled in the eighth, and an error allowed Wren to score the final run of the night.

Sam Held got his first start of the season after eight relief appearances and threw five scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered eight hits and struck out six, while issuing just two walks.

The three-game series ends on Tuesday with a 7:12 start time.
