WINNEBAGO, Nebraska (KTIV) – Ho-Chunk Incorporated is opening a new farmers market building on Saturday, August 24, in Winnebago, Nebraska.
The Ho-Chunk Village Farmers Market is located in the Ho-Chunk Village Development adjacent to U.S. Highway 75 in Winnebago.
The grand opening celebration starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. It will include educational sessions, informational booths, and vendors selling artisan goods and fresh local produce.
The new market is located in a 4,644-square-foot pavilion called the Village Market. The facility includes covered outdoor space as well as indoor space with a classroom, test kitchen, and offices.
The market will open from 1 – 6 p.m. every Saturday through October 26.
Ho-Chunk officials say the new market’s mission is promoting tribal food sustainability, entrepreneurship and revitalizing traditional tribal practices in art and agriculture.
The project was funded by several grants including USDA Rural Business Development, USDA Food and Nutrition, the Kiewit Foundation, WellCare Health Plans and New Markets Tax Credits.
