SIOUX CITY (KTIV) –  Support Siouxland Soldiers opened a newly renovated space in Sioux City on Wednesday.

Officials say the new additions to the organization’s location at 1551 Indian Hills Dr. was thanks to the many businesses who donated to the cause.

The renovations were started less than a month before the official opening and include more shelving for storage and more seating.

“A lot of hands involved in this renovation and it’s going to serve a lot of veterans. We can seat 35 more veterans no that we have this larger space so we’re really grateful for the community support,” said Sarah Petersen, Support Siouxland Soldiers Director.

The non-profit organization provides 20 annual support events, food assistance and care-packages for our Siouxland veterans and military families.

They say their overall mission is to honor and support all Siouxland veterans, service members and military families.

“We have over 28,000 veterans in the Siouxland area and Support Siouxland Soldiers is a way for the community to really engage with the veterans and really serve and support them,” said Petersen.

The next event Support Siouxland Soldiers will put on will be on Thursday.

Volunteers will help pack and distribute groceries Siouxland Veterans and Military families at the Long Lines Rec Center, 401 Gordon Dr. The event runs from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
