KANSAS CITY (KTIV) – The Sioux City Explorers entered Sunday’s South Division Championship series game four with a two games to one lead. A win for the Explorers would advance them to the American Association Championship Series.
Sioux City scored first in the first inning. Jose Sermo hit a double down the right field line. Nate Samson scored giving Sioux City an early 1-0 lead.
The Explorers added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Sebastian Zawada hit a solo home run to left fied. Sioux City led 2-0.
Kansas City cuts the lead in half in the home half of the fifth on a Dylan Tice RBI single making it a 2-1 Explorers lead.
The T-Bones tie the game in the eighth. Daniel Nava singled to left field scoring Danny Mars making it a 2-2 ballgame.
This game would go to extra innings. In the top of the 13th inning, Sermo comes through again for Sioux City. He drove in two on a triple to right center field. Dexture McCall added an RBI with a sac fly later in the inning.
The Sioux City Explorers are moving on to the American Association Championship Series with a 5-2 win over Kansas City.
The Explorers will take on the winner of the North Division Championship Series between Fargo-Moorhead and St. Paul. That series is tied 2-2 with the deciding game five Monday night at 7:05 pm.
