SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The American Association championship series starts Wednesday for the Explorers. Sioux City is trying to win their first league title in their 27-year history.
The X’s beat Kansas City 3 games to 1 to win the South Division title. They’ll play either St. Paul or Fargo-Moorhead in the finals — they play Tuesday night for the North Division title.
Sioux City clinched on Sunday and they host the first two games of the finals, so they’re anxious to chase the championship.
“The community’s been with this team since 1993,” said manager Steve Montgomery. “They’ve been to two championship finals since ’93. One was in ’15 and now this year in ’19. Just to give that back to the city would mean the world to me, mean the world to my staff.”
“Baseball’s all about situations and experiences,” said catcher Dylan Kelly. “I feel like we’ve been through a lot of different situations in games and doubleheaders and every kind of situation we’ve played. I think we’re prepared for this final here.”
Sioux City hosts games one and two on Wednesday and Thursday, at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park at 7:12 pm. The X’s will be on the road for the last three games of the finals, starting on Saturday.
