After nearly 24 hours, the Jury in a Sioux City mans murder trial reaches a verdict

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – After nearly 24 hours of deliberation, the jury in Elmi Said’s murder trial reached a verdict, today.

“We the jury find the defendant Elmi Said guilty of the crime of voluntary manslaughter.” said the Judge in the Trial.

The jury has found Said guilty of the murder of 40-year-old Guled Nur.

The jury began deliberations on Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors say Said and Nur got into an altercation in their apartment, at 1003 Pierce Street, back on October 28th, 2018.

Prosecutors say Nur tried to fight off Said by kicking him before Said swung the knife at him multiple times.

Said’s defense team argued that he was acting in self defense after a previous threat from Nur.

Said’s sentencing is scheduled for November 1st at 10 am.
