SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The Sioux City Explorers lost the opening game of the American Association Championship series to St. Paul, 12-3, on Wednesday night. The Saints scored in each of the first six innings and never trailed.
St. Paul scored solo runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings while putting up three in the third and four in the sixth. Sioux City, seeking their first league title in their 27-year history, scored on a bases loaded walk by Drew Stankiewicz in the fourth inning. The X’s also scored two on a dropped popup with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
Eric Karch suffered the loss on the mound for the X’s, giving up eight hits and six runs in three innings of work. St. Paul’s first 11 runs were driven in by seven different hitters.
Game two is Thursday at 7:12 pm at Lewis and Clark Park. The five-game series shifts to St. Paul on Saturday for game three.
