ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (KTIV) – Rock Rapids, Iowa is continuing to prepare for potential flooding over the next few days.
Leaders there say Rock Rapids Utilities are monitoring the Rock River levels and forecast.
Officials say the river this weekend was expected to crest at 22.8″.
They say they will alert the public if there are any changes to the forecast or in case of emergency.
Several parks and other areas surrounding the river have already been evacuated.
Officials say Island Park and Campground has removed all cabins as well.
They are encouraging all local residents to monitor their sump pumps and basements during this time.
People within the community are responding in many different ways.
Sand and sandbags are available to everyone in Rock Rapids.
Officials say residents are responsible for filling and transporting their own sandbags as needed, and no volunteers are required at this time.
