ST. PAUL, Minnesota (KTIV) – The St. Paul Saints are the 2019 American Association Champions for the first time in 15 years after defeating the Sioux City Explorers 6-3 in game three of the finals. The Saints swept the Explorers.
Sioux City took the lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Jeremy Hazelbaker. That put the Explorers up 3-0.
It was all St. Paul after that. A Chris Baker solo homer in the third inning cut the Explorers lead to 3-1. Then in the sixth inning, Chesny Young hit a grand slam to give the Saints a 5-3 lead. St. Paul adds to their lead in the seventh inning when John Silviano hit a double that scored former Explorer, Michael Lang. That gave the Saints a 6-3 lead. ]
Sioux City had the tying run at the plate in the top of the ninth inning but Kyle Wren grounded into a double play to end the game.
