SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) – With Missouri River levels still increasing, some areas in South Sioux City are already experiencing flooding.
Gene Maffit, the South Sioux City Parks Director, said they have already taken action in some regions.
He said they have evacuated 44 camping sites at Scenic Park Campground, the sites are currently underwater.
Maffit also said about eight of the soccer fields are also flooded.
And they have closed the boat ramp.
But even as the water continues to rise, Maffit said they are prepared, and don’t expect it to have much more of an impact.
“I think at this point we just have to sit and watch and wait for it to go down. Then clean up, and go on,” said Maffit.
Maffit said the flooding from the past has helped them better prepare for increased water levels.
He said he knows exactly what to expect now, when the Missouri crests near 31 feet.
According to the National Weather Service, the Missouri River is expected to crest Tuesday night or Wednesday morning in South Sioux City.
