Wayne & GACC win Nebraska state softball openers

HASTINGS, NE (KTIV) — Wayne senior Tori Kniesche had 19 strikeouts and threw a one-hitter as the Blue Devils beat Hastings, 4-0, in their Class B state softball tournament opener on Wednesday.

Kniesche, a South Dakota State recruit, helped Wayne improve to 31-3 on the season. Wayne scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second inning, taking advantage of five errors by Hastings.

The Blue Devils beat Seward 8-0 in the quarterfinals late Wednesday. Wayne will face Beatrice in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30.

In Class C, Guardian Angels Central Catholic beat Arlington, 15-7, in their opening game. The Bluejays beat Arlington 10-0 in round two to move into Thursday’s semifinals. GACC improved to 27-3 with the victory.
