VERMILLION, South Dakota (KTIV) — South Dakota started the season with three straight losses in football. But the Coyotes have evened their record with three straight wins, with a key test coming up at Northern Iowa.
USD had drilled Indiana State and Missouri State the last two weeks, winning by 38 and 35 points. The Coyotes are 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and are tied with North Dakota State and South Dakota State for first place.
UNI is also 3-3, and are ranked 15th in the nation. With a win, South Dakota can prove they belong with the big boys in the league.
“It’s actually very fun. I love the Missouri Valley,” said senior wide receiver Dakarai Allen. “It’s probably one of the hardest conferences that’s out there in the FCS and I would even say college football. It’s fun going out there and having to compete every game.”
“It’s kind of been our team slogan, no excuses, win,” said senior quarterback Austin Simmons. “I think that mentality is what we need to bring to the table each and every week. If you have that mentality that you’re not going to let anything get in your way, then I think we can take that next step.”
The Panthers have won the last two meetings with the Coyotes. That’s a 4 o’clock start in Cedar Falls on Saturday.
