Stuart, IOWA (KTIV) – Two sheriff’s deputies are recovering Friday morning after they were shot and wounded while serving an arrest warrant in central Iowa Thursday night.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, on October 17 at about 10:40 p.m. three Guthrie County deputies and a Stuart police officer were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at an apartment complex in Stuart, Iowa.

The warrant was for 52-year-old Randall Comly who was wanted for outstanding felony warrants.

Authorities said the officers knocked on the apartment door and were met by an adult male who was not Comly. The officers entered the apartment and while searching for Comly they were met with gunfire.

The officers returned fire and during the exchange two deputies sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds while a third deputy sustained a gunpowder burn. Comly sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound as well.

Two adult females were also inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, neither of them were injured.

More than 50 police officers, deputies and troopers responded to the report of shots fired. Officers said they were able to negotiate with Comly and get him to leave the apartment and surrender.

All those injured during the incident were transported to Des Moines hospitals and authorities say they are in stable condition.

Comly is in law enforcement custody at a Des Moines hospital on outstanding warrants.
