EVANSTON, Illinois (KTIV) – Iowa football has won two games in a row.The Hawkeyes defeated Northwestern 20 to nothing on Saturday to get to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes offense looked better than in recent weeks with an explosive 50 yard touchdown pass from Nate Stanley to Tyrone Tracy Jr. Mekhi Sargent added a 1 yard rushing touchdown.Iowa didn’t need to score much because the defense held Northwestern scoreless. The Hawks held the Wildcats to just 200 total yards and forced a turnover. The win moves the Hawkeyes up one spot to #19 in the A-P poll.
“The key was to be physical,” said junior Chauney Golston. “Out physical them because they’re a physical team and we know that so we want to set the tempo and we just keep that going the entire day.”
“All of our routes are based on timing,” said Tracy. “So when we cut, the ball should be there. When we break down, the ball should be there and it was today. Nate Stanley put it on the money everytime.”
The Hawkeyes return to the field November 9th at Wisconsin.
