SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Colonel Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement and the Morningside Civic Union invite the Siouxland community to “Caucus 101: Understanding the 2020 Iowa Caucuses.”
It’s a workshop series for new voters and caucus participants that takes place on November 7 and November 14 at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions are held in the Yockey Room of the Olsen Student Center, located at 3609 Peters Avenue.
Organizers say the November 7 workshop will focus on the logistics of the Democratic Party caucuses and the November 14 workshop will be dedicated to the Republican Party’s processes.
Each session is a 90-minute, interactive workshop that is open to the community and Morningside students, faculty, and staff.
Both sessions will be led by county and state leaders for the respective parties. Each workshop includes a caucus simulation where participants will have an opportunity to experience how the caucus process works for the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
Participants will learn the differences between a caucus and primary as well as partisan distinctions in how caucuses operate in Iowa. Participants will also gain logistical information needed to participate in the Iowa Caucuses on February 3, 2020.
