SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – U.S. Senator and 2020 Presidential candidate Michael Bennet toured the Siouxland Community Health Center on Friday.
It was the first stop of three while the Senator was visiting Sioux City.
Senator Bennet’s visit started with a quick meeting and discussion with several health center leaders.
His topics of discussion included primary care and the alignment of health insurance. Bennet says he recognizes ER visits are one of the most expensive health care options available.
He says he wants to ensure people are able to get primary care, so they don’t end up in the emergency room, due to a neglected health issue.
Bennet also says he wants to offer a public option for health care that gives people a choice.
“For ten years I’ve been fighting for a public option to supplement the work we did with the Affordable Care Act. I think that would give everybody in America the chance to chose whether they wanted to stay on their private insurance or have a plan administered by Medicare, but it would be left up to them to decide,” said Sen. Bennet.
The senator also met with the Iowa State Education Association and later had a meet and greet at Jackson Street Brewing.
