SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – South Sioux City Mayor Rod Koch declared Friday as Freedom Park Day.

The celebration was held at the Fire Department Freedom Hall.

The Chamberette’s presented an $8,000 check to be used for the Freedom Park Interpretive Center near the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

“The development of that park for Veterans, especially this time of year is very meaningful, and we’ve been at it for nearly 10 years, hopefully, this will allow us to get over the hump,” said Mike Newhouse, President of Siouxland Freedom Park.

In total, the Chamberettes have donated $21,500 to the Siouxland Freedom Park, and Dakota County leadership announced they will be stepping up to help get the park completed.
