Multi-county pursuit ends with arrest in northeast Nebraska

ANTELOPE COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) — A South Dakota man faces four criminal charges following a high-speed chase through northeast Nebraska.

Monday morning, Cedar County sheriff’s deputies were chasing a vehicle traveling west on Highway 20 near Laurel.

The vehicle had previously been reported to law enforcement as possibly containing a suicidal party.

A Nebraska State Trooper joined the pursuit, which reached 90 miles per hour.

Troopers say the suspect vehicle swerved toward oncoming traffic and intentionally made contact with pursuing officers’ patrol units several times.

The chase ended after troopers deployed “stop sticks” to flatten the vehicle’s tires, and a trooper used his vehicle to bring the suspect vehicle to a stop.

34-year-old Matthew Waters of Colton, South Dakota, faces four charges including assault on an officer with use of a vehicle, and drunk driving.
