Sioux City, Iowa (KTIV) — Union nurses at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center will host a community rally in Sioux City on Thursday, November 21, to call for what they refer to as a strong contract that invests in patient care and Sioux City.
The nurses, represented by UFCW Local 222, held a community rally earlier this month.
They have been in contract negotiations with MercyOne since June. Their previous contract expired on September first. The union approved two contract extensions that ran through mid-October.
The nurses say they want higher pay, guaranteed medical benefits, and a lower patient-to-nurse ratio.
A statement from MercyOne states the hospital “…values our longstanding partnership with our nurses. We look forward to finalizing what we believe to be a fair and equitable agreement, as well as continuing to provide top quality, compassionate care to our patients, families and communities.”
The community rally is at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Holiday Inn, 701 Gordon Drive, Sioux City.
