SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- Northwestern and Morningside both won on day two of the NAIA Volleyball Tournament at the Tyson Events Center. The second-ranked Red Raiders beat #18 Lawrence Tech of Michigan (27-25, 27-25, 25-23) to improve to 30-1.

Morningside surprised number-16 Oklahoma City, 3-2, to improve to 1-1 in the tournament. Emma Gerber paced the Mustangs with 22 kills. Morningside improved to 17-12 with the victory.

The Mustangs can advance to the Sweet 16 with a win Thursday against number-17 Providence of Montana.

"We've talked a lot this season about playing one point at a time," said Morningside head coach Beth Donnelly. "We've also talked about how we've got to make sure that our eyes are forward. You can't worry about what happened on the last point, you just got to keep looking foward."

"We knew we had to win tonight if we wanted to go into the Sweet 16 so I think that's what determined it," said senior Emma Gerber. "We had a little grit. We had to get on each other and be like this is it. If we want to get into the Sweet 16 we got to do it tonight and we did it."
