SIOUX CITY (Courtesy Morningside College) -– Morningside College head football coach Steve Ryan was honored by the American Football Coaches Association as one of 20 regional Coach of the Year honorees.
Ryan, who’s led the Mustangs to their second straight and third overall National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ championship game, was the NAIA Region 4 honoree. It’s the sixth successive season and ninth time overall in which he’s earned the award, as his overall total ranks fifth among all divisions and his current string of recognitions is the second-longest all-time trailing only National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III legend Larry Kehres of the University of Mount Union of Ohio who received regional honors in seven consecutive years.
He joins a group of five from the NAIA in being a finalist for the national honor. The AFCA will announce the 2019 National Coaches of the Year winners in FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA at the American Football Coaches Awards on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
