One shot fired in Briar Cliff dorm room

UPDATE (5:35 p.m.)

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- Briar Cliff President Rachelle Karstens has released a statement about Thursday morning's incident involving a gunshot being fired inside a college dorm.

In the release, the university president confirmed several details with police regarding the incident.

According to the release, police confirmed that three individuals gained entry into Alverno Hall around 1 a.m. Thursday morning. The individuals are not believed to be Briar Cliff students.

The release goes on to say the three individuals walked to a dorm room looking for a specific individual.

Words were exchanged and a lone gunshot was fired, no one was injured during the incident.

The release says the three individuals left campus and have yet to be apprehended.

Video surveillance of the individuals and a description of their vehicle has been shared with Sioux City Police.

For safety reasons the individual who was targeted in no longer on campus.

PREVIOUS (5:00 a.m.)

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Sioux City Police Department is investigating after a shot was fired inside of a dorm room at a local university.

The shot was fired into a closet in Alverno Hall at Briar Cliff University just after 1:00 am.

No one was injured, and the bullet did not go through the closet.

The Sioux City Police Department tells us they do not believe that anyone was in danger.

An investigation is ongoing into the incident, and no arrests have been made at this time.
