SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - South Sioux City has a reason to celebrate tonight because of its wrestling team, its GIRLS wrestling team.
It's the inaugural year for a statewide competition for Nebraska Girls Wrestling.
After the tournament, South Sioux City ended up with a state champion, a state runner up, and the seven competitors finished 8th place and above. The team came in 3rd place overall.
"Last year we had 2 girls and I didn't think too much of it. We had two girls and it was kind of a growing thing. And I said y'know what, let's be at the forfront of this thing. Let's try and get things going. A lot to be proud of for them. 7 girls and all seven of them came back in the top eight. Really something to build off of for future years." said Evan Bohnet, South Sioux City Wrestling Coach
The coaches hope the girls' success will help grow the wrestling program to 20 girls next year.
