A new interventional radiology suite was unveiled Friday at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center.

Procedures with the new Siemens IR equipment were performed this month inside the suite.

The advanced machines can take 3D mapping images of patients to go from head to toe and around the patient in several dimensions. The 3D mapping of vessels helps physicians to offer minimally invasive vascular and nonvascular procedures.

MercyOne officials say the equipment isn't just top of the line for Siouxland, but for the country.

"This isn't highly advanced for this market, this is highly advanced for the country. This is one of the top machines out there, you'll find in any academic medical center that we have now brought here to the Siouxland Community," said Tim Daugherty, VP of Operations and Strategy at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center.

Daugherty added the machines were installed in January and have already helped save a life.

MercyOne will also be working closely with the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
