Winnebago Tribe prepares for ‘Last Bear Moon Winter Celebration Powwow’

(KTIV) -- For the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, February is an important time of the year.

The month honors a special clan that serves as protectors of the tribe and the Ho-Chunk Clan System.

This Saturday, at the Winnavegas Casino, the tribe host the "Last Bear Moon Winter Celebration Powwow."

This year the theme of the celebration focuses on honoring "Women Veteran Warriors."

During the celebration, the tribe offers insight into some of the cultural aspects of the different types of dances that are performed during the event.

This year's highlight is a spotlight competition that will feature the grass dance for the men and jingle dress dance for the women.

Doors open at 10 a.m., admission is free.
