NEAR SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A member of the 185th Air Refueling Wing has completed his 389-mile walk across the state of Iowa to raise awareness of mental health.
Technical Sergeant Jeff Campbell started his 20-day walk in Clinton, Iowa. Monday, he took his last steps into Sioux City.
Campbell works as a “Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape” specialist for the 185th, and he says surviving on the battlefield is mustering up the mental strength to survive. Campbell says mental health issues affect everyone.
He encourages everyone to be ready to talk about their daily struggles with someone else. "I just think its very important that we start to be more open and verbal about all of these issues instead of just keeping them in because it doesn't matter who you are, or where you come from, somebody cares," said TSgt Jeff Campbell, 185th Air Refueling Wing.
Campbell believes if people can start having these conversations, then they can start to strengthen their mental "muscles".
