SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- The Sioux City Police Department is saying goodbye to one of their own.

After 31 years, Officer Dudley Joines is retiring.

Tuesday friends, family and fellow officers showed up to celebrate him, and his years on the force.

Joines said he feels blessed to have gotten this job 31 years ago. From being on SWAT, to working in the schools, Joines said he's been through a lot in his career, including working through the crash of United Airlines Flight 232, his first year on the job.

"There have been lots of things that go through a person's career in Sioux City, but I will say I'm leaving this city, very proud of this city, very proud of this department," said Joines. "We have lessons to learn and we will just keep working at it, but it's time for me to go and my son got hired to take my place."

Joines said his biggest piece of advice for his son is to work hard, be proud of your city, and represent your department well.
