NEAR MACY, Neb. (KTIV) - Tribal and federal investigators are looking into the death of a northeast Nebraska woman.
A statement from the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, which was released late Tuesday night, acknowledges the death of Lenice Blackbird. But, the statement doesn't say how she died, or when she died. It does say that Omaha Nation Law Enforcement is working with the FBI in the investigation of Blackbird's death.
KTIV has reached out to both agencies, but they haven't returned our calls.
Tuesday night, Blackbird's friends and family joined tribal members for a vigil to remember her. The vigil took place at Big Elk Park, which is two-and-half miles north of Macy.
Family members say that's where Blackbird's body was found last Saturday night in a wooded area. When Blackbird's body was found, family members say she had been missing for five days.
