Akron-Westfield and Newell-Fonda drop first round games in Class 1A

FORT DODGE, Iowa (KTIV) -- Siouxland teams went 0-5 at the state softball tournament this year. Akron-Westfield and Newell-Fonda were the latest teams to fall after first round losses in Class 1A.

Second-seeded Newell-Fonda was shut out by seventh-seeded Lisbon, 3-0. The Mustangs finish 18-3 while Lisbon goes to the semifinals on Wednesday with a 21-3 mark.

Sixth-seeded Akron-Westfield lost to third-seeded Clarksville, 7-6, in eight innings. The Westerners had a 5-0 lead in the third but couldn't hang on.

Akron-Westfield finishes 17-3, while Clarksville advances at 17-1.
