(NBC News) - The number of hand sanitizers you should avoid because they contain a toxic chemical has grown to more than 80.
The FDA has recently added at least seven new products to its list of hand sanitizers that may contain methanol.
Methanol can be dangerous when absorbed through the skin or ingested.
There have been increasing reports of injuries due to people using the sanitizers, including blindness, heart problems, and even death.
The FDA issued a warning letter to a Mexican-based company Eskbiochem about selling products containing the chemical, sometimes as much as 80 percent.
The company is also accused of falsely claiming their sanitizers are approved by the FDA.
Consumers are urged to not use any products from any of the manufactures on the list, even if the specific product is not listed.
