DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -- West Lyon's baseball season ended with a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Van Meter in the Class 2A semifinals on Thursday.
The Wildcats took the lead in the third inning. With two outs, Jackson Kramer's grounder was misplayed at second base, allowing Gavin Lorenzen to score for a 1-0 advantage.
Van Meter scored twice in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Van Meter pitcher Zach Pleggenkuhl threw and complete game and gave up just two hits.
"I'm just proud of them," said head coach Koury Kramer. "This season wasn't easy. We had a bunch of seniors and they didn't know if they were going to get this season but they took full advantage of it I'm so proud of them."
West Lyon (15-4) was making their first state baseball appearance since 1996. Van Meter (22-2) will play in the 2A championship game on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
