July 31: Total COVID-19 confirmed cases nearing 44,500 in Iowa

(KTIV) - The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 are nearing 44,500 in the state of Iowa, this according to new figures released Friday morning by Iowa health officials.

According to figures as of 9:30 a.m. Friday, 44,474 people in the state have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. From 9:30 a.m. Thursday to 9:30 a.m. Friday, 696 new residents have tested positive for the virus.

Currently 225 people remain hospitalized due to the virus, down 12 from Thursday. Meanwhile 71 patients remain in the ICU, down five from Thursday.

From 9:30 a.m. Thursday to 9:30 a.m. Friday, 767 more people have recovered from the virus, bringing the state total to 32,503.

Since the pandemic began, 475,497 Iowans have tested for the virus.
