LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) - A Nebraska inmate, serving a sentence for drug-related crimes in Madison County, has died.

A spokesperson for the Nebraska Department of Corrections says 59-year-old Jose Cruz died Wednesday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Cruz started serving his 14-to-24-year sentence at the Omaha Correctional Center in May of 2012. In 2012, Cruz was convicted of four counts of delivery or the intent to deliver meth, one count of conspiracy to deliver meth, and one count of possession of a meth in Madison County.

While the cause of death has yet to be determined, officials say Cruz was being treated for a medical condition. A grand jury will conduct an investigation.
