SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- Surrounded by family and friends, the Hill family started their journey in their new home with help from Siouxland Habitat for Humanity.
New homeowner Shonkita Hill said she's grateful for everyone who helped out along the way.
"It means the world to me. I'm happy, friends from work family people from habitat that came out here. You know it feels good to know that I have a lot of support around me," said, Shonkita Hill.
For Hill, joy was all she could feel on this special day.
"Being able to make memories in here and being able to you know call this our home. Put pictures up make it feel like it's home. We're going to get that chance to do that. It feels good, it feels great. I'm excited. I'm happy," said Hill.
Shonkita's Nephew, Daylen Kemp said he's been waiting for this day for a while.
"I'm feeling so excited I don't know just so happy," said Daylen Kemp, Shonkita's Nephew.
He said he's already picking out colors to paint his new room.
"I think it's going to be white and black and then a little bit of green because I love green. I love green," said Kemp.
But he said if he had to pick, he couldn't say which part of the house was his favorite.
"Everything. The whole house it's so beautiful," said Kemp.
For Shonkita, it's been a long road of hard work to get to where she is now.
She adds, she went through many different emotions after finding out about the house.
"I started screaming. I started crying. I was laughing. I was happy. You know I was already making plans and didn't even know what my house would look like or anything but I was making a lot of plans. Super exciting," said Hill.
Hill said they're ready to make this new house… into their home.
