How to register to vote in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota

(KTIV) -- General Elections are coming up on Nov. 3 and the deadlines to register to vote are quickly approaching.

Voters in Iowa and Nebraska can register online, in person or by mail. South Dakota residents can register in person or by mail.

Registration deadlines vary by state and method. Iowa residents have until Oct. 24 to register with all methods. Nebraska voters have until Oct. 16 to register online or by mail in, and they can register in person until Oct. 23. South Dakota voters have until October 19.

Voters can then request absentee ballots if they wish to not vote in person.

In Iowa you can request the form up until 10 days before the general election. Nebraska voters can request a ballot until Oct. 23. In South Dakota, the election officials must receive your application for absentee ballot no later than 5 p.m. the day before the election.

In all three states, ballots can be returned in-person election day or postmarked by the day of the election.
