Nebraska trooper struck, injured in Omaha crash

A Nebraska trooper’s patrol unit was struck from the rear by an SUV Wednesday morning.

OMAHA, Neb. (KTIV) -- A Nebraska State Trooper was hospitalized Wednesday morning after his patrol car was struck in the the western Omaha area.

The Nebraska State Patrol says at about 8:45 a.m. troopers responded to reports of road damage on eastbound I-80 near Giles Road. Sarpy County deputies and road construction teams were also on scene.

Troopers blocked off the far right lane of traffic so construction workers could repair the road.

At about 9:45 a.m. a trooper's vehicle was struck in the rear by an SUV. The trooper's vehicle was station and blocking the far right lane of I-80 at the time of the crash.

The patrol says the trooper was inside the vehicle and the emergency lights were active while he was blocking traffic.

The trooper and the driver of the SUV were both transported to an Omaha hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper has since been released from the hospital.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
